Announcing a New Market in Pike County
"The Wednesday Market" will feature locally-grown products from area farmers
____________________________________________________________
Dear Friends:
We are excited about the January 26th opening of the new Wednesday Market in Zebulon--we hope you will consider being a part of it as 2011 progresses. We decided to open in the dead of winter so that we can start small. This market will be open from 3:30 to 6:30 every Wednesday for the whole year--it will be "the little brother" to the big Market on the Square on Saturdays from late March through November.
There are several significant differences in the Wednesday Market.
This market will sell only produce and products that you grow or make yourself. It's for farms in Pike and surrounding counties that touch Pike's boundaries. We will not be accepting resale items. Why this policy? We are trying to support our local farmers who grow locally. It's the mission of the Pike County Agribusiness Authority to develop more farms and farmers in Pike so that our county will have a robust agricultural sector that will benefit all our citizens. For our vendors who are growers from outside this region, and for those that bring in resale produce, we continue to welcome you at Saturday's Market on the Square.
The Wednesday Market will have an on-line ordering feature. This is how it works: You create an account on-line at www.WednesdayMarket.locallygrown.net. Describe the farm, list the products you will have for the next Wednesday, harvest, drop off the packaged orders, profit! You can also pull up your truck, set up your tent and sell right there on Wednesdays from 3:30 to 6:30. The customers will do the same thing and register so they can sell what's available and order what they want. So far, we have heard a great deal of enthusiasm from folks. If you would like to see how one of these things works, go to www.locallygrown.net and check it out. Brenda Fayard of the Agribusiness Authority would be glad to help you get started and answer any questions.
The cost: For 2011, if you use the on-line system, it's 3% of sales (that's to pay the guy who developed the software). If you park your truck, it's $5 if you sell more than $20 that day.
Don't have anything for now? The Agribusiness Authority will be holding several workshops through out the Spring for farmers who would like to get an idea of how to extend their seasons and grow for the fall, winter, and early spring. Stay tuned for dates and times.

The Market is going to be located at the small brick building on Concord Street in Zebulon, right across from the First Baptist Church. Why not stop by--we are working on being able to show you how it works (and getting heat in the building so we don't freeze!).
Questions? Call Chris Curry at 770-841-9268/770-567-3600. If you want to continue receiving news about our markets that's written especially for vendors and growers, just continue to accept these emails. If you would rather not, just decline. Thanks for being a part of our seven year success story!
Sincerely,
The Pike County Agribusiness Board of Directors
